TROX RFD-V is a new and highly innovative swirl air diffuser unit with an integral thermal actuator, designed for installation in exposed ceilings to provide faster heating in the room space. With all the benefits of the standard TROX RFD swirl diffuser including low sound power level, the RFD-V also benefits from automatic adjustment between (vertical position) heating and (horizontal position) radial cooling operation modes based on room temperature to provide faster cold-start and a more optimum indoor climate and occupant comfort by preventing draughts in the room space.
Even better still, the effectiveness of RFD-V with vertical projection of air during heating up to 2.7m in height, can result in energy efficiency savings of up to 80%* versus other exposed ceiling diffusers.
The RFD-V is intended for installation in suspended ceilings in commercial offices, laboratories, healthcare facilities or similar environments, with a number of innovative advantages. A lot of emphasis was placed during our in-house laboratory testing on the impact of high level heating using variable geometry air diffusion, and cooling with horizontal air discharge (coanda effect), to ensure the most energy efficient and effective air distribution within the room space.

More and more often, air terminal devices are mounted freely suspended. Reasons for this can be of an aesthetic or technical nature. The new adjustable swirl diffuser RFD-V is optimised for this task. The special shape of the swirl blades in conjunction with the wider discharge nozzle enables horizontal discharge in cooling mode and thus prevents draughts.
However, if the air brought in shall be warmer than the room air, the supply air must be brought into the room vertically against the buoyancy. The new RFD-V achieves this through its automatic adjustment, which enables large penetration depths. The mechanism reacts automatically to temperature changes in the supply air, requires no power supply and is concealed in the plenum box.

A dedicated laboratory air management system, supplied by TROX, has been installed to optimise safety and environmental performance in a major new clinical and research facility. The TROX EASYLAB system, incorporating TROX VAV controllers, specialist filters, grilles and diffusers, will assist Norfolk-based Quadram Institute to meet the stringent requirements for its world-class research.
The new Quadram Institute building, based at the Norwich Research Park, brings together the former Institute of Food Research, the University of East Anglia Clinical Research Facility and the gastrointestinal endoscopy unit of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to conduct ground-breaking translational research and clinical care around four research themes: Food Innovation and Health; Gut Microbiology; Microbes in the Food Chain; and Population Health. The new facility will house 300 researchers, as well as clinicians and support staff. In addition, as the largest unit of its type in Europe, it will welcome up to 40,000 endoscopy outpatients each year. The building provides distinct accommodation for each department, as well as shared office space, meeting rooms and amenities to encourage interaction between all user groups.

This innovative "groundscraper" designed by Ken Shuttleworth of Make Architects provides a new headquarters for UBS allowing the organisation to consolidate its London trading operations into one building. The new building, which forms part of the Broadgate Estate, will house up to 6,000 people and features four immense trading floors in 700,000 sq ft of Grade "A" office space.
5, Broadgate is described as one of the most sustainable office buildings of all time. Make Architects highlight that the sustainable features of the building include "the second biggest array of photovoltaic cells and solar thermal panels in the City of London, a substantial area of green roof, 70 percent waste recycling, FSC-certified timber, and a BREEAM Excellent rating".
