TROX UK achieves ISO 45001 International Standard for Occupational Health and Safety

TROX UK has been awarded an internationally-recognised accreditation for management of Occupational Health and Safety. The prestigious ISO 45001 certificate is an international standard for health and safety at work, developed by national and international standards committees independent of government.

Implementing ISO 45001 helps an organisation demonstrate compliance with international health and safety law but, in some respects, it goes beyond what the law requires, acknowledging that management of these aspects is outstanding. The fact that TROX's systems and procedures are designed to meet the very highest standards provides additional peace of mind for employees, but also extends to the ways in which products are manufactured, enabling safety-conscious customers to have even greater confidence in the TROX equipment installed in the buildings under their care.

Neil Addison, Managing Director at TROX UK explained: 'Safety is one of the TROX core values, and has been an underlying commitment and focus of the business since its earliest days. The motto of our founder, Heinz Trox, is “People are the benchmark and their wellbeing is our goal". Our commitment to health, safety and wellbeing is relentless in its determination to improve human lives with better air quality, acoustics, fire and smoke protection.'

Certification from BSI (the British Standards Institution) demonstrates the effectiveness of TROX's preparations and procedures for identifying and mitigating risks. It also recognises, however, the company's ability to adapt to changing circumstances, and to drive continuous improvement, ensuring a safe and supportive workplace for employees.

Two Thetford-based TROX employees who have been instrumental in the achievement of ISO 45001 compliance are Kerry Parrott, EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) Manager and Wiktoria Zak (EHS Administrator). In addition to closely reviewing practical and obvious steps, like physical safety barriers or guards for machinery, safety workwear, and other safety equipment/measures, their role has involved embedding a strong culture of hazard or risk prevention and reporting. They have also developed and updated processes and procedures.

Kerry Parrott commented: 'An important factor when seeking ISO 45001 certification is that BSI needs to be able to witness a deeply-rooted health and safety culture across the company. This means that safety-conscious operations are at the heart of how every employee approaches their working life. As the ISO standard goes beyond the requirements of health and safety law, we have introduced some additional measures. For example, we have introduced a new portal for all documentation relevant to governance/compliance, and built on our existing educational safety training with e-learning modules on topics from DSE, Manual Handling and Slips/Trips & Falls, to Health & Safety guidance for employees working at home.'

The latest certification integrates with, and builds upon, TROX's existing internationally-recognised accreditations, including ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System).

Neil Addison commented: 'This is a fantastic achievement for us all at TROX UK. Thanks to everyone for helping the implementation of new processes, procedures and the positive attitude and culture that is needed to achieve such a standard. The most important thing however is that everybody is safe at work, and we will continue to be vigilant every day.'
