Soccer City - Johannesburg (South Africa)

Soccer City in Johannesburg is the largest stadium in South Africa and can hold 94,700 spectators. It is located near the exhibition centre and the Soweto quarter, which is home to 40% of Johannesburg's inhabitants.

In 1987, football shareholders decided to build South Africa's first national stadium, and this was then financed by the South African Football Association. The old "First National Bank Stadium“ (FNB Stadium) was the venue for some important events, e.g. Nelson Mandela's first rally after his release and the final round matches of the African Cup of Nations in 1996.

Refurbishment measures included the exterior facade, which was designed to look like a pot, the entire roof, spectator stands, etc.

In addition, 117 boxes, 6000 business seats, restaurants, a broadcasting centre and a museum on the history of South African football were integrated into the stadium.
