TROX UK Ltd, the Thetford based manufacturer of air conditioning systems, has embarked on a major education programme to train all employees in the principles of 6-Sigma, a team-based approach developed by Motorola USA in the mid 1980’s. The first 22 employees recently graduated following 6 months of rigorous training and have achieved “Green Belt” status which is recognised nationally at NVQ-Level 3.
Peter Johnson, Production Director, says: “to remain competitive and agile in these challenging times we are training all employees to enable them to take a greater part in the development of the Company. The 6-Sigma training is unique in encouraging everyone to work in teams to solve business problems that affect our performance. I am pleased that so many people have been awarded certificates today, and also proud of the achievements of the workforce over the past few years. Our training programmes cover all areas of technical and practical skill acquisition and to date 59% of factory employees have gained NVQ qualifications ranging from Level 2 to 5.”
Colin Marriot, one of the graduates, said: “I really enjoyed the training course and I can see how powerful the strategy is for raising business performance - have already applied to train for the top level - “Black Belt Team Leader”.”
