UK History

Bethnal Green
In 1962, Trox Brothers Limited was formed as a private company to service the UK, marketing the Gebrüder Trox GmbH manufactured air distribution products from an office in Bethnal Green, London.

This sales office continued until 1965 when a 16,000 sq ft factory at Enfield, Middlesex was leased and the first UK production of air distribution grilles commenced.

From 1966 to 1971 as demand for Trox products grew the manufacturing facilities at Enfield expanded to 26,000 sq ft.

The scope of manufacture expanded to include axial-flow fans, filtration equipment, high pressure equipment, tunnel ventilation dampers, multi-leaf damper units and fire dampers, requiring even more production space.

With the purchase of a free hold site in 1971 Trox moved into a new custom built factory in Thetford which provided 50,000 sq ft of manufacturing and 16,000 sq ft of office space, but as demand grew even this proved not be enough. From 1976 to 1983 factory extensions increased the production facilities to 90,000 sq ft with 22,000 sq ft of office space.

In 1987 Trox Brothers Limited celebrated 25 years of service to the Heating and Ventilating industry, that year also saw the completion of a 2,500 sq ft test laboratory at Thetford.

As the company grew manufacturing space was at a premium. Being unable to expand any further on the Thetford site, a 5 acre greenfield site at Great Yarmouth was selected where another factory was built and officially opened in 1990. This factory added a further 30,000 sq ft of manufacturing.

In 1990 Trox Brothers Limited received BS 5750 Part 2 1987 accreditation. Trox also implements a Quality Management System to BS EN ISO 9001 : 2000.

On 1st January 1996 the company name was changed to Trox (UK) Ltd, at which time David Leatherbarrow was appointed Managing Director. With the other Board Members, David Leatherbarrow introduced the new MRPII (Manufacturing Resource Planning) culture into the company along with a new BaaN computer software system.

To support the Company's fast growing Middle East export market an office was opened in Dubai in 1996.

By 1997, to complement its extensive product range, Trox UK added manufacturing of Chilled Ceilings, Chilled Beams and Fan Coil Units.

1999: Trox CoolRac won the H&V News Award for Product of the Year.

2001: Michael Brunson OBE opens purpose built Training Facilities.

2002: Presented by John Healey, M.P. Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Adult Skills, Trox UK achieved Investor in People status.

2005: Saw the completion of a further three Test rooms to cope with the demand for product development and project testing.
