Investment

Manufacturing 3
TROX has spent £2.5 million on plant over the past six years, with another £1.5 million investment planned this year.

Computer numerical control (CNC) gives TROX flexibility in terms of handling different component geometry. It also allows us to optimise the usage of sheet materials through computerised nesting programs so it does not waste materials.

However, the real issue is flexibility of manufacture – you can produce a virtually infinite range of profiles via CNC programming.

As well as buying the CNC equipment, TROX has also developed, in-house, CNC technology for the manufacture of plenums. The equipment can assemble any plenum shape, whether rectangular, square or T-shaped, with an output rate of one every two minutes.

TROX has also bought two state-of-the-art TIG/MIG and plasma-arc welding robots to produce the aluminium diffusers that were originally made by hand using mechanical assembly equipment.

All these investments and processes are underpinned by TROX’s MRPII system, a software-based system that enables the company to streamline its sales order processing.

The system can rapidly calculate sub-assembly and material requirements for new orders and enquiries. Production orders are automatically generated and scheduled, and materials’ purchase orders are raised and scheduled as a part of the MRP process.
